90年代のオルタナ・インディーバンドをルーツにポストロック・エモ・音響系を通過した固定観念にとらわれないサウンド、切ないメロディ、アーティストとしても活動する荒井光喜の手がけるジャケットやTシャツなどのデザインワークなどと合わせて独自の世界観を表現している。

super samir

Super Samir is:

Andre Sakai - everything

Andre Sakai, aka Super Samir is a multitalented egyptian/japanese crossbreed, born in Tokyo, raised in Cairo. Alongside playing guitar in rock bands, in 1999 he started making funky breakbeat tracks under the moniker 'Super Samir'. In 2001 he released a four track demo under the same name to critical acclaim. In 2002 he released his first full album “FOFA” which led to many new jobs such as remixing for big name artists such as “ACIDMAN” and creating music for corporate commercials such as the apparel maker “BEAMS” and “MTV”. From 2003 to 2005 he was a monthly resident DJ at the trendy “idee service station” at Mishuku in Tokyo. In 2004 he took part in the compilation released by enndisc “A Soundtrack for Everyday Life” for up and coming artists from Tokyo. On 15 September 2006 he shall release a full album remix of Farida’s Cafe´’s “Abuzeek”. Currently he creates original tracks, remixes as well as produces and records other artists on a freelance basis. On the live end, Super Samir is a two piece set with Live Drums & Bass + a laptop system which triggers samples and visuals.

これはただの焼き直しの音楽ではない。 ブリティッシュ・ロックが持っている色褪せた空気や、頭の中でグルグルとサウンドがリピートさ れる中毒性、 メランコリックな感覚を呼び覚ますメロディー、それらがザ・クロニクルズというフィルターを通 過することで “新しい日本のロックの形”として生まれ変わる。東京・下北沢を中心に2003年2月より本格的に活 動を始め、 昨年ファースト・アルバム「LOSGATES」をリリース。そのUKを彷佛とさせるマニアックな音楽 性が、特にコアな 音楽ファンやミュージシャンに熱く支持され、深い信頼を得ることとなる。その後はワンマン・ラ イブや多数の イベントに出演するなど、ライブを重ねることでその音楽性の深みは増していき、凄まじい追求心 を抱えながら およそ一年半振りとなるセカンド・アルバム「songs from nowhere」の製作に突入。楽曲全体の 雰囲気に重点を 置き、段階を踏むごとに盛り上がりを見せる構成に聴く者が飲み込まれていく様は圧巻である。ま た、この手の 音楽と日本詩がこうも自然に溶け込むものなのかと舌を巻いてしまうだろう。 もしもクリエイション・レーベルがまだ存在したのならば、この音楽を見逃さなかったはずだ。
